Regrettably Duncan and I never had the pleasure of meeting Terry Martin. I so wish we had. As it is all too often in life, there are just too many would’a, should’a, could’as. Have a look, and especially a listen to this short film.

It’s no April Fools joke.  Malcolm is headed off on another shaping excursion for approximately the first half of April.  The port of call is UWL Workshop in La Rochelle France.

The exact dates will be posted soon.  Malcolm is looking forward to creating a new batch of Bonzers with Renaud, Thomas, Benoit, Josslin and the UWL crew.  We will be also getting a special assist from Tristan Mausse and Paul Lefevre, aka. The Lucky Bastards.

The high quality of  workmanship at UWL ensures that the boards Malcolm shapes will not only look beautiful, but will be strong as well.  It is very important to us, with troublesome economies and the cost of surfboards these days, that our boards are durable and provide enjoyment for the longest possible time. This years boards should be “the best batch yet”.

Tom and Joe, who run the the Surf Hostel in Morocco, have a nice selection of Bonzers that they lend out to their patrons. They have other boards as well. Basically they have a bit of a test site set up, at which you have a good place to stay, fantastic surf potential, and you can take a variety of surfboards and designs for a spin.

Some cool stories have gotten back to us about guys showing up and having some great sessions on the ‘in house’ Bonzers. Tom and Joe have been putting in some quality time in on their Bonzers as well. We hope to pay them a visit at some point and give those right handers a whirl.

Daniel And Mikala Jones have put in a lot of quality time on the Bonzers over the last few years demonstrating the potential of the boards.  They also have been very generous in sharing images with us, both video and stills.  A 16mm film by Jeremy Rumas called Hangs Upon Nothing which features some Bonzer surfing is currently in production. We are looking forward to not only that footage but the entire film itself which promises to be a project of very high quality. We encourage everyone to check the film out when it begins showing sometime next year. You can watch the teaser trailer below…

After a successful and enjoyable April at UWL Surfboards in France and Manila Surfboard Designs in Portugal, it is on to England in June. The Campbell Brothers Nerve Center will again be set up at Nigel Semmens’ Ocean Magic Factory in Newquay, Cornwall. Nigel and the boys have been kind enough to have us back, and deal with all those bloody ‘extra fins’. Guy and I look forward to putting together another batch of ‘Bonzer Beauties’ and continuing to celebrate the 40th year of this crazy fin filled escapade. And to top it off I will get to cruise around Bournemouth with Lord Penwarden in his Hot Rod.

The shaping schedule, ie, my lock down time, will be June 20th to the 30th, give or take a day. I am allowed small meals, and a daily reward of one and a half pints; my preferred limit. This causes a slight logistical problem, as it is a bit unseemly for a grown man to be seen drinking a “cheeky half”. So in order to protect my reputation, and his, Guy quickly pours ‘the half’ into my existing pint glass before anyone can notice.

In all seriousness, which rarely happens in England; Duncan and I do cherish the opportunity to make Bonzers in countries other than our own, and send a hearty thanks to all of you who are making this years visit possible.
